Potted Panto runs seven classic pantomimes end to end in 70 minutes. Two performers take on the whole canon, rubbing Aladdin's lamp, walking the golden streets of Dick Whittington's London and getting Cinderella to the ball, changing costume, character and story every few minutes. Much of the comedy comes from the gap between what the tales demand and what two people can actually manage. The show plays straight through with no interval and is recommended for ages six and over.
It is performed by its creators, Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner, former CBBC presenters and double Olivier nominees who also made Potted Potter. The script is by Clarkson and Turner with Richard Hurst, who also directs. Potted Panto premiered in the West End at the Vaudeville Theatre in 2010, was nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment, and has returned most Christmases since, making it the West End's longest-running pantomime and a fast, family-sized alternative to the traditional three-hour panto.
