Horrible Histories - Terrible Tudors

Children adore Horrible Histories... and so do grown-ups. It’s a fresh and hilarious take on real history with the nasty bits left in, it’s back in the West End for a summer run, and this is the show’s third year. Having wowed audiences at the Garrick Theatre in 2023, Birmingham Stage Company’s acclaimed production is back on stage for daytime performances throughout August. The fun has been co-written by Terry Deary, the creator of Horrible Histories and one of the UK’s best-selling authors, in collaboration with Neal Foster, and it delivers a whistlestop tour of the Tudor dynasty.

How horrid were the Tudors? They were genuinely awful, a frightful family whose abominable stories will shock and delight you. The show covers everyone from the hateful Henries to the end of evil Elizabeth’s vile reign, telling a load of stories packed with legends, lies and torture, a show full of headless wives and punch-ups with the Pope, where Bloody Mary does her worst and Ed falls down dead in his bed. Will they survive the Spanish Armada? This is such a fun show. You’ll laugh all the way through. The costumes are horrible, the sets are horrible, the whole thing is totally, wonderfully awful. Don’t miss it!
