My Son’s A Queer (But What Can You Do?)

My Son’s A Queer (But What Can You Do?) is a joyful, heartfelt, and hilarious autobiographical show written and performed by Rob Madge, celebrating the chaos, creativity, and unconditional love that comes with growing up queer. Blending home videos, theatrical storytelling, and larger-than-life imagination, Rob revisits their childhood ambition to stage a full-scale Disney parade in their living room—complete with homemade costumes, multiple character roles, and family members roped into the production with mixed success. It’s a touching tribute to supportive parenting, individuality, and the magic of self-expression.

After acclaimed runs from its 2021 premiere through the Edinburgh Festival, West End, national tour, and a season in New York, this award-winning hit returns for a strictly limited final run at London’s Apollo Theatre from 16 September to 3 October 2026. Bursting with humour, nostalgia, and heart, this is your last chance to experience a show that has captured audiences worldwide—a life-affirming celebration where, this time, everything goes exactly to plan.

Best show in London!
I've seen it 4 times and I am an 80 year old Grandma! I love Rob, and I apologize for bad teachers.

Moved to tears
I went with my queer teenager (14) on a city trip to London. We are from the Netherlands and wanted to see the musical Heathers. Since we enjoyed that immensely we decided to see another show and stumbled across this one. My child enjoyed the show (and the audience!) and felt so in place there. But being Dutch, some of the jokes were a bit lost on them. For me though, a mother of a (sometimes) struggling queer child, this show moved me to tears. It was so relatable and recognisable. I will remember this for a very long time to come.

Pleasantly surprised
We sat front row circle which was perfect but could have bought a slightly cheaper ticket which would have just as good a view. Beautiful theatre and although the show was quite short it would have lost it’s impetus if it were any longer. Robert Madge was gloriously entertaining in every aspect. The addition of the home movies really helped to create the story. A great way to spend an afternoon

F***ing Fabulous!
Best show I’ve seen in a long time. Deserved a much longer run — as in permanent run! Everyone NEEDS to see this show.

Just fantastic and heart tugging!
Fantastic show with great story line. A must see show that will have you laughing and feeling a bit tearful too. Really brilliant!

Queerly
One man show about growing up an only child who felt different from his class. A back ground of hilarious videos from his childhood. Very funny and tender about bullying and coming of age. Obviously came from a loving family who always stood by him. Only lasted an hour but was fast moving and entertaining. The actor was tremendous
